Ground Source Heat Pumps
Ecotec ground source heat pumps are specifically engineered to use the UK climate to provide many years of trouble free, reliable heating comfort and hot water, as well as cooling if required.
Ecotec ground source heat pumps work efficiently as the ground from which they extract their energy is able to maintain a high rate of temperature consistency, as little as 1.5m below the ground regardless of the season or the time of year.
To collect the energy from the earth, the Ecotec ground source heat pump circulates a mixture of water and antifreeze through pipe work, called a 'ground loop', buried in the ground. The liquid travels around the loop absorbing heat from the ground, which can be used to heat radiators, run underfloor heating or produce hot water.
The length of ground loop depends of the size of the installation and the amount of heat required. Normally if space permits the loop is laid into a trench approximately 2 metres deep, or alternatively a vertical loop could be installed to a depth of around 100 metres.
Obviously the installation of the ground loop will add to the overall cost of the installation of your heat pump, however heat pumps up to 75kW output can be driven from this type of installation.
